FENIX ECOFILM Underfloor Heating Film

The FENIX ECOFILM underfloor heating film is an ultra-thin electric floor heating system designed specifically for laminate, engineered wood and compatible floating timber floors.

Using carbon heating film technology, ECOFILM distributes heat evenly across the floor surface while maintaining a very low installation height.

The system uses a dry installation method, eliminating the need for self-levelling compound or traditional wet screed.

130W/m² Heating

FENIX ECOFILM is available in two heating outputs:

  • 130W/m² – designed primarily for internal living areas

The appropriate output should be selected according to the room’s heat loss, insulation, floor construction and heating requirements.

Designed for Laminate & Timber Floors

ECOFILM is designed for compatible floating floor constructions including:

  • Laminate flooring

  • Engineered wood flooring

  • Compatible real wood flooring

  • Floating timber floors

When used with a suitable overlay system, ECOFILM can also form part of compatible installations beneath carpet and vinyl flooring.

Always confirm that the selected finished floor covering is approved for use with electric underfloor heating.

Ultra-Thin Dry Installation

One of the main advantages of underfloor heating film is its low-profile construction.

The heating elements are simply rolled out over the appropriate insulation layer, positioned according to the installation plan and connected to the heating control system.

No self-levelling compound is required.

This makes ECOFILM particularly suitable for:

  • Renovation projects

  • Retrofit heating

  • Apartments

  • Living rooms

  • Bedrooms

  • Offices

  • Lofts

  • Areas where floor build-up must be minimised

Multiple Widths & Lengths

ECOFILM is available in three widths:

  • 300 mm

  • 500 mm

  • 1000 mm

Standard lengths are available from 2 metres up to 10 metres.

This range of sizes makes it easier to maximise heated floor coverage across rooms of different shapes and dimensions.

The elements can also be shortened on site where permitted by the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Cut ends must be correctly insulated before the system is used.

Thermal Insulation

A suitable thermal insulation layer should be installed beneath the ECOFILM heating elements.

Insulation helps:

  • Reduce downward heat loss

  • Improve heating response

  • Direct more heat towards the floor surface

  • Improve overall heating performance

  • Provide additional acoustic insulation beneath floating floors

Always use insulation compatible with the heating system and floor construction.

Polyester Vapour Barrier

After the heating film has been installed and electrically tested, the complete floor area should be covered with a suitable polyester vapour barrier before the finished floor covering is installed.

The protective layer should cover both heated and non-heated areas according to the ECOFILM installation instructions.

Thermostat Control

The ECOFILM system should be controlled using a compatible underfloor heating thermostat.

Programmable and WiFi thermostats can provide precise temperature control and allow heating schedules to be configured according to occupancy and comfort requirements.

Correct temperature control is particularly important with laminate and timber flooring, where the flooring manufacturer’s maximum permitted temperature must be observed.

Important – Not for Wet Areas

FENIX ECOFILM is not designed for wet areas such as bathrooms or shower rooms.

For bathrooms, wetrooms and shower areas, use a heating system specifically approved for the intended wet-area installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is underfloor heating film?

Underfloor heating film is a thin electric heating element designed to distribute radiant heat beneath compatible floor coverings.

Is ECOFILM suitable for laminate flooring?

Yes. FENIX ECOFILM is specifically designed for compatible laminate and other floating floor installations.

Can ECOFILM be used under engineered wood?

Yes. It is suitable for compatible engineered wood and floating timber flooring systems.

What is the difference between 130W/m² and 160W/m²?

The 130W/m² version is intended primarily for normal internal living areas, while the 160W/m² version provides a higher heating output for applications requiring additional heating capacity.

Does ECOFILM require screed?

No. ECOFILM uses a dry installation method and does not require self-levelling compound.

Does insulation need to be installed underneath?

Yes. The manufacturer specifies a suitable thermal insulation layer beneath the heating film to minimise downward heat loss and improve heating response.

Does a vapour barrier need to be installed?

A suitable polyester vapour barrier is installed over the completed heating film system before the finished floor covering.

Can ECOFILM be installed in bathrooms?

No. ECOFILM is not designed for wet areas such as bathrooms or shower rooms.

Does ECOFILM require a thermostat?

Yes. The system should be connected to a compatible underfloor heating thermostat for temperature control.
